Your official IRS acknowledgment (Form 1098-C or written receipt) is mailed within 30 days of the sale.
Wheels for Good partners with Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3), to turn your car into support for people who are blind or visually impaired. We serve the entire Kansas City Metro—downtown, Midtown, Brookside, Waldo, the Northland, Overland Park, Olathe, Lee’s Summit, Independence, Blue Springs and beyond. Most pickups in the metro happen the same day or next business day, Monday through Saturday, and your car doesn’t need to run, pass inspection, or have current registration. If you’re ready to donate, skip the research spiral and lock in your year-end tax deduction now—before December 31 pickup slots are gone.

Year-end tax deduction facts
Dec 31 pickup sets this year’s tax year
For IRS purposes, the donation date is when your vehicle is picked up, not when it sells. If your car is towed away on or before December 31, you can generally claim the deduction on this year’s return.
Form 1098-C for larger deductions
If your car sells for more than the IRS threshold, Heritage for the Blind issues Form 1098-C. This shows the gross sale price, which you use when claiming your deduction and attaching documentation to your return.
Deduction usually equals sale price
In most cases, the amount you can deduct is the actual sale price of your donated vehicle, not the blue book value. Your 1098-C or acknowledgment letter will clearly list this sale amount for your tax records.
You must itemize on Schedule A
To benefit from a charitable car donation, you must itemize deductions on Schedule A rather than take the standard deduction. Talk with your tax advisor about whether itemizing this year makes sense for your situation.
30-day acknowledgment requirement
IRS rules require that you receive a written acknowledgment within 30 days of the vehicle’s sale in many situations. Heritage for the Blind mails this promptly so you’re ready when it’s time to file your taxes.
